Experience Canang Making & Balinese Blessing at Handara’s Sacred Temple

Bali is not just a destination—it’s a place of deep spirituality, traditions, and heartfelt rituals that connect its people to nature and the divine. At Handara Golf & Resort, we invite our guests to experience this profound aspect of Balinese culture through our Canang Making & Balinese Blessing Session, held in the resort’s tranquil temple, surrounded by towering trees and the peaceful whispers of nature.

This immersive activity is not just about creating a traditional offering—it’s about understanding the meaning behind it, embracing mindfulness, and feeling the spiritual essence of Bali.

What is Canang Sari?

If you’ve walked the streets of Bali, you’ve likely noticed small, beautifully arranged offerings placed on temple altars, sidewalks, and in front of homes. These are called Canang Sari, daily offerings made by Balinese Hindus to express gratitude to the gods and maintain harmony between humans, nature, and the spirit world.

Each element of the canang has symbolic meaning, and during this session, our cultural guide will explain the significance of:

The Flowers & Their Colors – Each color represents a different Hindu deity:

  • White (East - Iswara) symbolizes purity and wisdom.
  • Red (South - Brahma) represents strength and passion.
  • Yellow (West - Mahadeva) signifies prosperity and gratitude.
  • Blue or Green (North - Vishnu) reflects balance and harmony.

The Coconut Leaf Base – The square-shaped base represents the four elements: earth, water, fire, and air.

The Incense Stick – Lit at the end of the offering, incense carries prayers and gratitude to the heavens.

Guests will be guided step-by-step in creating their own canang sari, learning how each piece is arranged with intention and devotion. This mindful process allows you to experience the calm and meditative nature of Balinese rituals, while gaining insight into the local way of life.

Once the offerings are complete, you will have the honor of placing them at Handara’s temple, followed by a traditional Balinese blessing. The blessing involves:

  • A sprinkling of holy water – Symbolizing purification and spiritual renewal.
  • Burning incense – To send gratitude and prayers to the gods.
  • Receiving bija (rice grains on the forehead) – A sign of divine blessing and protection.

Why Join This Experience?

Participating in this ritual offers more than just cultural knowledge—it allows you to slow down, embrace mindfulness, and connect with Bali’s spiritual essence. It’s a moment of reflection, gratitude, and inner peace, set in a sacred space surrounded by nature’s beauty. Reserve your spot and be part of this unique cultural journey at Handara Golf & Resort.
